There are few things more embarrassing than consistently bad breath. It can negatively impact your social life, ability to communicate with others and your general well-being.

But, if you have this condition, don’t give up hope yet – there are a few things that you can do to improve your dental hygiene, and in the process clean up that foul-smelling odor, such as:

Avoiding cigarettes, coffee and soda – Your dentist isn’t kidding when he or she says that, overtime, these three vices can adversely affect your health. They stain your teeth and can induce gum line recession, which in turn invites a whole host of bacteria to take root and start producing the odors commonly associated with bad breath.

Brushing, flossing and rinsing every day – A steady regimen of brushing and flossing helps clear out odor-causing bacteria or food particles. Mouthwash is also a great method, but note that some dental care professionals advise using non alcoholic products, as alcohol-based solutions can lead to dry mouth which, in some cases, can actually encourage bacterial growth.

Chewing gum – Not only does it provide a way to increase the amount of saliva, which helps keep the mouth moisturized and helps to prevent bacteria formation, chewing gum is a great way to get your mind off the sometimes addictive vices that contribute to bad breath.

Drinking lots of water – Water helps flush the system out, and this means your mouth as well. Bacteria clinging to your teeth and gums that cause bad breath are no match to a large gulp of water.

Maintaining good dental hygiene is only half the battle, however. Make sure that you schedule regular appointments at an affordable dental care facility with a professional who understands the personal touch when it comes to oral health.
